The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)/Premier Hospital Quality Incentive Demonstration (HQID) pay-for-performance project is the first national pay-for-performance project of its kind, designed to determine if financial incentives are effective at improving the quality of inpatient hospital care.
More than 260 hospitals are voluntarily participating in the project, including 10 from Adventist Health (with all system hospitals shadowing the project). Reported results thus far indicate that patients treated at hospitals participating in the project are living longer and receiving recommended treatments more frequently.
